Monday Motivation: Volvo Unveils Hospitality Concept

Volvo Cars and online hotel curator Tablet Hotels have teamed to launch a new luxury lodge concept in northern Sweden. Part of a promotional campaign for the automaker’s V90 Cross Country wagon that plays up the notion of a work-life balance, the Get Away Lodge—which will be bookable for a limited time—is located outside of the Åre in Jämtland County winter sports village and showcases a rustic, Scandinavian design.

“Our research shows that around the globe, six out of 10 people want to spend more time outdoors, not at the office,” says Björn Annwall, senior vice president, global consumer experience, Volvo Car Group. “We want to encourage people to re-prioritize and reconnect with their forgotten passions. The lodge is the perfect location for anyone who wants to escape for a few days to discover the elusive work-life balance we have all heard of.”

The existing lodge has been revamped to create a sense of mindfulness, project participants say. The accommodation houses a bedroom, a kitchen overlooking the Åreskutan mountain, a living room with an oversized fireplace, a dining room, a study and a yoga/contemplation room decked out with mats, incense burners and candles. An equipment room offering winter sports gear such as skis and snow shoes is also on tap. Other details include furniture by Röshults, and a selection of books by Zen philosopher Alan Watts.

Access to a new Volvo V90 Cross Country is also included in the package, providing transportation to the nearby Michelin-starred Fäviken Magasinet restaurant.
“Cars and hospitality are a great match, as both involve working hard to make the result look easy—and this is an illustration of when the magic happens,” says Laurent Vernhes, Tablet co-founder and ceo. “Volvo has created the kind of truly special hotel experience that our fans crave. I’m going to work on making sure that the Get Away Lodge is only the first of many.”
