Classic Car Upholstery
Check out this rare photo of auto upholsterers installing convertible tops on the Ford Model T. It was reportedly taken in the early 1900’s at a Ford Motor Company assembly plant somewhere in the U.S. Midwest.
The Model T, otherwise known as “Tin Lizzie,” was manufactured from 1908 to 1927 and is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile. Most historians agree that founder Henry Ford’s perfection of the assembly line is what allowed Ford Motor Company to keep prices low, thus making cars available to middle-class Americans and popularizing it as the country’s primary mode of transportation.
Despite a dearth of photographs available from the time period, this is the third photo of the Model T that we’ve uncovered. The other two, featured last month, show what it was like to upholster the Model T’s seats on the company’s assembly line.
